Brandon Demmery Race Report From Round 4

August has been a busy month so far, and more is still to come.

At the start of the month I headed to Queensland Raceway to watch the Erebus V8 team
do their thing. To watch a professional outfit go about their business was great to see. I
took a heap away from the weekend, and have already implemented some changes in the
way we operate.

On Thursday the 6th I rode Queensland Raceway for the first time on the Yamaha YRD 600.
The track looks simple but I knew from last year on the 300 it’s quite technical. The extra
speed and size of the 600 just amplifies it more. I was fortunate to have Mark Atchison
offer some advice and tips which really helped me adapt to the track

I was then lucky enough to have a week on the Gold Coast staying with friends. I used the
time for training, and for catching up with some sponsors and friends

I was comfortable on the bike at the test, so when the race weekend came around I was
keen to go.

Friday practice
The gearbox problems we had experienced were a distant memory and it was time to push myself and see where I stood in the pack. The team made small changes all day to the bike which helped me find a good rhythm and I just tried to do as many laps as I could. The weather was great, and with help from Atcho we got closer to a set up that I was comfortable with

Qualifying
I had used a new set of tyres early in the day as our tyre bank didn’t have any good sets left to practice on. I went out for qualifying on tyres that had done 2 previous sessions. I managed to record a time of 1.15.340 which I was happy with. I would start the races from P15. Time could be made under braking, but the front end of the bike I wasn’t happy with. We knew the direction to take, but just not how to get there.

Saturday Races
Race 1 I finished 16th with a fastest lap of 1.15.246
Race 2 I finished 14th with a fastest lap of 1.15.127
Race 3 I finished 16th with a fastest lap of 1.15.421

Sunday Races
Race 1 I finished 13th with a fastest time of 1.15.041
Race 2 I finished 16th with a fastest time of 1.14.348
Race 3 I finished 14th with a fastest time of 1.14.487

Now we move on to Buriram in Thailand next week for Round 4 of the Asian Road Racing Championships on the Yamaha R25. The team and I have been working hard to develop the new bike into a race winner. We are looking forward to seeing if all the hard work has paid off.
